The Last Dinner Party

The Last Dinner Party is conquering the music world. Ever since the release of their debut Prelude to Ecstasy back in 2024 the band has been skyrocketing to superstardom. 2025 brought the excellent sophomore release From the Pyre and propelled the band to bigger rooms, sold-out shows and most recently, an opening spot locked in on Olivia Rodrigo's upcoming The Unraveled Tour.

The band has kept busy since their fall release of From the Pyre. They've been on an endless tour, supplied a track to the HELP (2) compilation and now they've released a primal scream of a single with "Big Dog."

This is a pressure cooker of a song, filled with huge guitars and massive drums. Topping it are Abigail Morris's vocals, which overflow with emotion and rage in the best way possible. When Morris passionately exclaims "Don't take your clothes off when you're famous / What kind of thing is that to say to a child?" it hits hard. And then she sings this: "My feet bleed from dancing / Lick them clean like you're my big dog" Ok, eww, but also, that's some serious imagery!

The theatricality that The Last Dinner Party has become known for is still on display, especially in the song's bridge, but what really cuts through is how much this songs ROCKS. At times it reminded me of Led Zeppelin or The White Stripes, and I'm here for it. The Last Dinner Party's band members are incredible role models for women and girls everywhere who want to start a rock band. They're hitting harder and making more creative rock music than almost any other group out there right now.

"Big Dog" continues to prove this, and if you're a fan of rock music but find yourself saying "nobody makes good rock music anymore" you need to give The Last Dinner Party a listen. You'll most likely change your mind.

You can catch The Last Dinner Party live in Des Moines on June 4 at The Val Air Ballroom. I can assure you that you won't want to miss it. We'll see you there!
