About Studio One

Studio One is Iowa Public Radio’s indie and alt music station, playing the best mix of emerging artists and beloved bands, then and now.

We are:

• Indie to the core. It's not just the music we play. We're an independent non-profit — not beholden to commercial interests, computer algorithms or corporate playlists. 
• Community-based. You won’t hear loud ads here. We play more songs per hour than anyone else — with a brief break to shout out a sponsor from within our community. We're the only station playing Iowa artists and many of the bands stopping at our local stages.
• Listener-supported. 100% of our funding comes from contributions from the loyal listeners and fans who generously support Iowa Public Radio and Studio One.

Our Vision

Studio One creates a place of community and connection for Iowans to rediscover their love of music, explore the sounds that inspire them and support a vibrant local music scene.

What We Do

When it comes to music, Iowa’s no flyover state. We have can’t-miss festivals that draw national acts, major music venues, thriving dives and unheralded local music scenes in cities across the state.

We’re on a mission to connect you to what’s happening, who’s coming and how you can get out and enjoy the music.

• You can hear us 24 hours a day on 94.1 in Des Moines, 88.9 near Bondurant and Mitchellville, in the Studio One app, on the web, or on your digital device.
• We give you a break from the news on IPR airwaves, starting at 7 p.m. on weeknights and 1 p.m. on weekends.
• We’re your guide to Iowa’s music scene, on air and online with regular artist spotlights, new music recs, music videos, ticket giveaways, music news and concert listings.
• We bring you fresh music for your playlist every week. Our hosts are music fans first. They are constantly looking for the latest track from your favorite artists or new bands you need to know. We take the best releases and put them into rotation immediately for you to discover.
• You can spot us at a music venue or festival near you — from a club show at xBk Live to the campgrounds at Hinterland —  or sponsoring great music events throughout the state.
