Lucius Pham
Video Production Manager & Weekend HostHey! I'm Lucius Pham, Video Production Manager and one of your weekend hosts here at Studio One.
I'm responsible for the videos you see — artist interviews, intimate performances, and full concert experiences. Catch me on-air every weekend; I love to introduce you to local artists right along with the biggest names in music.
I'm always looking for the next up-and-coming local talent to introduce to you, whether through video or on-air.
Who should I be listening to? I'm all ears!
My favorite Iowa music destinations:
- Codfish Hollow in Maquoketa
- Ragged Records in Davenport
- Englert Theatre in Iowa City
My entries in the "best songs of all time" list:
- "One Step Ahead" by Aretha Franklin — Not only is it a pop, rock and soul classic, it’s also a standard in hip-hop and my favorite Internet Era subgenre, hyperphonk
- "Ripple" by The Grateful Dead — I want this played at the beginning of my funeral
- "Lay Wit Ya (feat. Duke Deuce)” by Isaiah Rashad — I want this played at the end of my funeral
What I consider the best music (auto)biographies and memoirs:
- Fade to Black (The Jay-Z 2004 Documentary Concert Film) — Makes me wish I was outside for the era of XL washed jeans and Ecko Unltd
- The Temptations (NBC’s four-hour, dramatized miniseries from 1998) — David Ruffin is like the Walter White of soul music. He was probably not the best dude, but so much fun to watch.
- Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest (Controversial documentary about the formative NYC hip-hop group) — I’m not a fan of the actor/comedian Michael Rappaport, but I did enjoy this. If you don’t like the film, you’re in good company — neither did Q-Tip.
